This piece for double bass and two marimbas is intended to depict a storm at sea. The Storm starts off with a serene swelling in the marimbas, representing waves gently rocking a ship. Throughout the first half of the piece, the three instruments exchange melodic material with increasing in intensity. Toward the latter half, the piece builds to a rhythmic climax, which represents the height of the storm. After the storm breaks, the harmonic material from the beginning of the piece returns but is slightly altered, reflecting a sort of peaceful weariness after coming through the storm.
