These five short preludes each represent a different scene involving water. The preludes are all bound by an overall similarity in style and compositional technique. Each prelude shares elements of minimalism and makes use of constantly evolving melodic and rhythmic ostinato figures. The piece as a whole is intended to explore the various atmospheres water creates and the emotions it has the power to evoke.
